What Is a Bespoke Engagement Ring?

A bespoke engagement ring is a ring that is designed from scratch, tailored specifically to you, rather than chosen from a pre-made collection.

Instead of trying to find “the one” in a display case, you’re creating something that reflects your relationship, your style and your story. Every detail, from the centre stone to the setting, and subtle personal details are chosen intentionally.

If you’ve been browsing engagement rings and nothing quite feels right, bespoke is often the point where things start to click.

Why Choose a Bespoke Engagement Ring?

There’s something very different about wearing, or proposing with a ring that has been created just for you.

For some people, it’s about having something completely unique. For others, it’s about being more involved in the process, or making sure their budget is being spent in the places that really matter to them.

A bespoke engagement ring allows you to:

  • Create a design that feels personal rather than off-the-shelf

  • Choose a diamond or gemstone that suits your preferences

  • Balance design and budget in a way that works for you

  • End up with something that no one else has

It’s not about making things complicated. It’s about making them meaningful.

How the Bespoke Engagement Ring Process Works

One of the biggest concerns people have is not knowing what to expect.
In reality, the process is much more straightforward than most people imagine.

1. Initial ideas and inspiration

This usually starts with a few inspritation images, a general style, or even just a feeling of what you like. Maybe you’ve had a few hints - this is the time to think about the person that will be wearing the ring, and what matters most to them.
You don’t need to have everything figured out, I’m really experienced in being able to pick out the hidden hints of the perfect style.

2. Consultation and design direction

This is where we talk through your ideas, preferences and budget, and start shaping a direction that feels right for you.

3. Sourcing the diamond or gemstone

Once we understand the design, the next step is finding the right stone. This could be a classic white diamond, or something more unusual such as a uniquely shaped or coloured diamond, or a sapphire.

I specialise in sourcing diamonds that feel a little different, from antique cuts to unusual shapes and tones, as well as beautiful sapphires, so there’s always the opportunity to create something truly individual.

4. Design development

Your design is developed through sketches or CAD visuals so you can see how everything will come together before it’s made.

This allows you to visualise the ring in detail and make any changes along the way. Nothing is final until you’re completely happy, so you can move forward feeling confident that the finished piece will be exactly what you’re expecting.

5. Final approval & bringing your rign to life.

Once you’re happy, the design is signed off and moves into production.

At this stage, everything has been carefully considered and refined, so you can feel confident in every detail. From here, your ring is handcrafted in the UK, bringing the design to life exactly as you’ve approved it.

You’ll also be kept up to date along the way, with updates such as videos of your chosen diamond or gemstone before it’s set, and a final video of your ring before it is securely couriered to you. It’s all part of making the process feel as exciting and reassuring as possible.

How Much Does a Bespoke Engagement Ring Cost in the UK?

This is one of the most common questions, and understandably so.

The cost of a bespoke engagement ring in the UK can vary depending on the design, the size and quality of the diamond or gemstone, and the level of detail involved.

As a guide, many bespoke engagement rings start from around £2,500 to £3,000 and increase depending on the centre stone and intricacies involved.

What’s important to know is that bespoke doesn’t automatically mean more expensive. In many cases, it can actually be a more considered way to spend your budget, as you’re choosing exactly where to place the value rather than paying for a pre-made design that may include elements that aren’t as important to you.

There’s also a wide range of options available, from classic white diamonds to more unique stones and shapes, which means there’s flexibility to create something beautiful at different price points.

The process is always guided, so you’re never expected to know everything upfront. We’ll work within a budget that feels comfortable for you, helping you understand where to invest and where you can be more flexible, so the final piece feels right both visually and financially.

How Long Does a Bespoke Engagement Ring Take?

A bespoke engagement ring typically takes around 4 to 8 weeks from initial design to completion.

This includes sourcing the right diamond or gemstone, developing your design, and carefully handcrafting the ring here in the UK.

Throughout this time, I guide you through each stage so you always know what’s happening and what to expect next. From sourcing stones that align with your preferences and budget, to refining the design so it feels exactly right, the process is designed to feel clear and considered rather than overwhelming.

If you’re working towards a specific proposal date, I’ll help you plan timings from the outset and advise on what’s achievable, so everything runs smoothly. Where needed, we can make adjustments to keep things on track, but the aim is always to give you enough time to enjoy the process and make confident decisions.

Choosing the Right Diamond or Gemstone

Choosing the centre stone is often one of the most exciting parts of the process.

For a classic look, many people choose a white diamond in the D–G colour range. Others are drawn to something a little different, such as warmer-toned diamonds, uniquely shaped stones, or coloured gemstones like sapphires.

This is where I help guide you, showing you options that align with your style, your budget, and the overall feel you want the ring to have. I often source diamonds that aren’t typically seen on the high street, from antique cuts to more distinctive shapes and tones, as well as beautiful sapphires, so you can explore something that feels truly individual.

There’s no single “right” choice, and you don’t need to have all the answers upfront. The process is about narrowing things down together, so you can feel confident in what you choose and know it’s right for you.

Is a Bespoke Engagement Ring Right for You?

Bespoke isn’t the right route for everyone, and that’s completely fine.

For some, choosing a ready-made ring is exactly what they need. But for others, especially if nothing they’ve seen quite feels right, bespoke can open up a completely different experience.

It’s a great option if you:

  • Want something that feels personal and meaningful, rather than off-the-shelf

  • Haven’t found anything you truly love in ready-made collections

  • Would value guidance and reassurance throughout the process

This is where I add the most value, helping you make confident decisions, refining ideas, and bringing everything together in a way that feels considered rather than overwhelming.

If you’re short on time or would prefer to choose something immediately, a ready-to-ship ring can also be a great option, and I can always help guide you towards something that feels right there too.

Common Concerns (and Why You Don’t Need to Worry)

It’s completely normal to feel unsure at the start. Most people I work with have never done this before, so you’re not expected to have all the answers.

“I don’t know where to start”
You don’t need to. That’s what the process is for. I’ll guide you through each step, helping you shape your ideas into something clear and considered.

“What if I get it wrong?”
Everything is designed collaboratively, so nothing is final until you’re completely happy. You’ll see how the ring will look before it’s made, and have the chance to refine the details along the way.

“I don’t know their ring size”
This is very common. Rings can be resized afterwards if needed, so it doesn’t need to be a worry at this stage.

“It feels like a big decision”
It is, but it should feel exciting, not stressful. With the right guidance, the process becomes something you can enjoy and feel confident in.

“I’m not sure who to trust”
This is completely understandable, especially when you’re making such an important purchase. I’m a member of the National Association of Jewellers and have been in the jewellery industry since 2007, building my reputation on trust, honesty and long-term relationships with my clients.

I work closely with every client on a one-to-one basis, keeping things transparent and personal throughout. From sourcing stones to sharing updates along the way, the aim is always to make you feel informed, reassured and confident in every step.
