MEET POPPY ELDER

Jewellery has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

My grandparents started their business in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter in 1953. My Mom (yes, it’s Mom not mum in the midlands) grew that business into one of Europe's largest independent manufacturing jewellers. As a child I'd spend school holidays in the factory earning pocket money, not quite understanding yet that I was learning an industry from the inside out.

When I left school I joined the business properly, starting as the post girl and working through every role in between. Packing, production, quality control, client liaison. I did all of it. Not because I had to, but because understanding how jewellery is made from start to finish is the only way to really know what you're doing when you design it.

I spent the next fifteen years designing jewellery for retailers across the UK and beyond. Commercial work, mostly. Clean lines, safe choices, round brilliants. Good work, but not the work I really got excited by.

That’s because at trade shows in places like Las Vegas and Munich I kept seeing stones I couldn't stop thinking about. Kite-cut diamonds. Octagonal shapes. Vivid yellow and champagne diamonds with a warmth I'd never seen in a high street ring. Parti sapphires that shifted from teal to gold depending on the light. Diamonds and Sapphires with unique characters, and nowhere obvious to go.

In 2023 I started Poppy Elder Fine Jewellery to give those stones somewhere to go.

“After more than 15 years in the jewellery manufacturing industry, I wanted to bring my love of thoughtful design and beautifully made pieces directly to the people who would wear them.
I’ve always been drawn to unusual diamonds and sapphires - stones with character, stories, and natural beauty that deserves to be showcased with clean, timeless design.

Poppy Elder Fine Jewellery grew from a desire to create meaningful pieces with honesty and care, guiding clients through each step so they feel supported and confident in every decision. My aim is to craft jewellery that feels personal from the very first conversation and becomes a treasured part of your story for years to come.”

POPPY ELDER, FOUNDER

A Love for Unusual Stones and Timeless Design

'm naturally drawn to diamonds and sapphires with character, such as unique cuts, rich colours, and one-of-a-kind inclusions that make each stone unlike any other. Pairing these with clean, timeless design is what defines my approach. Classic elegance with a personal twist. It runs through the Signature Collection and every bespoke piece I create.

The people who come to me tend to feel the same way. They want something timeless with a quiet twist that makes it feel personal. They don't want to stand out for wearing something wacky. They just don't want to look down at their hand and see the same ring as everyone else. Especially when that ring is meant to represent something that was entirely their own.

After all, who wants to have friends with matching engagement rings? Shouldn’t they be as unique as your relationships?

Jewellery is used to mark some of the most important moments in our lives, and it's a real privilege for me to play even a small part in those stories. Whether that's through an unexpected gemstone, a subtle hidden detail, or a design that simply feels right the moment you see it. My aim is always the same: to design something that feels like it belongs to you from the very beginning.

If you'd like to talk about a piece, I'm easy to reach on WhatsApp.
