Care
Fine jewellery is made to be worn and enjoyed, but it’s still precious. A little care will help keep your pieces looking beautiful for many years to come.
For a quick clean at home, warm water with a small amount of washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush will remove everyday grease and dirt from gold, platinum, diamonds and sapphires. Let them soak for 10 minutes before brushing them to soften any built up dirt. Rinse well and gently pat dry with a soft cloth.
Please don’t use this method on softer gemstones such as emeralds or opals, as they can be damaged by soap or soaking. If you’re ever unsure, I’m always happy to advise.
Even when jewellery is high quality, it’s best to remove it for heavy manual work, gym sessions, gardening, DIY or cleaning. This helps protect the metal and keeps stones secure over time.

Earring FAQ's
What earrings are best for sensitive ears?
If you have sensitive ears, the metal your earrings are made from makes a big difference.
Fashion jewellery and lower carat golds often contain mixed metals that can cause reactions. For sensitive ears, platinum is the best possible choice as it is a naturally hypoallergenic metal with no additives. 18ct gold is also a much safer option than 9ct gold, as its higher pure gold content means fewer reactive metals coming into contact with your skin.
What is the difference between 9ct and 18ct gold earrings?
9ct gold is made from just 37.5% pure gold, with the remaining 62.5% made up of other metals. 18ct gold contains 75% pure gold, giving it a richer, warmer colour and making it far less likely to cause skin reactions.
For earrings - being jewellery that sits directly against your skin - 18ct gold is the better long-term investment both in terms of appearance and wearability.
Are diamond earrings worth buying?
Natural diamond earrings are one of the most timeless jewellery purchases you can make. Unlike trend-led jewellery, a pair of diamond earrings in 18ct gold or platinum will never date and can be worn every single day. Buying from an independent jeweller also means you can choose your diamonds carefully, selecting stones based on quality rather than mass production.
What gemstone earrings suit all skin tones?
Diamonds are universally flattering and work with every skin tone and outfit. Sapphires, particularly blue sapphires, are also incredibly versatile and have been a staple of fine jewellery for centuries. Emeralds suit warmer and deeper skin tones beautifully. If you're unsure, getting in touch to discuss your colouring and style is always a good starting point before choosing.
How do I choose the right earrings for my face shape?
As a general guide, longer drop or dangle styles tend to suit rounder faces by adding length, while studs and smaller hoops flatter most face shapes and are the most wearable day-to-day option. If you're looking for a pair that will genuinely work hard in your jewellery box, a classic gemstone stud in platinum or 18ct gold is one of the most versatile choices you can make.
