Ring sizing guide
If you’d like to get this right first time, I always recommend using a proper ring sizer rather than guessing.
I’m very happy to pop one in the post to you so you can measure at home, comfortably and without pressure.
When you’re using it:
• Slide it over your finger and adjust until it feels snug, but not tight
• Make sure it moves over your knuckle with a little resistance
• It should feel secure at the base of your finger without digging in
A small but important tip:
Be careful not to tighten the sizer once it’s past your knuckle and sitting at the base of your finger. If it’s too tight to come back over your knuckle, it’s too tight full stop. Always check that it goes on and off comfortably before settling on a size.
Your ring needs to feel secure enough that it won’t spin or slip off, but loose enough that you can remove it without a struggle.
If you’re between sizes or unsure at all, just ask. I’d always rather guide you properly than have you guessing.

Still Unsure?
If you’re at all unsure about your size, please just get in touch. I’m always happy to guide you, however all of my engagement rings benefit from a free resizing, so if it needs a slight adjustment don’t worry.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that wider bands tend to feel slightly tighter than finer ones, so this can affect the size you choose. If you’re selecting a wider design, I can advise on whether we should adjust accordingly.
Getting the fit right matters, and I’ll help you through it.

A warm yellow diamond set between two white pear cut diamonds. A three stone ring for anyone who wants something a bit different but still loves a classic engagement ring shape.
The centre stone is a 0.65ct oval fancy light yellow diamond, GIA certified and VS1 clarity, so it's eye clean with no inclusions you can see. It's held in 18ct yellow gold claws, which I've used to bring out the yellow colour of the diamond.
Either side are two white pear cut diamonds, 0.27ct in total, set in platinum. The white stones make the yellow look warmer and richer by contrast. The platinum band is clean and hard wearing, and the total diamond weight comes to 0.92ct.
There's only one of this ring and it's ready to order now, handmade in the UK. It can be sized to fit you, and if you like the style but want a different stone or setting, I can also make a yellow diamond engagement ring in a similar style to your own bespoke requirements.

Care
Fine jewellery is made to be worn and enjoyed, but it’s still precious. A little care will help keep your pieces looking beautiful for many years to come.
For a quick clean at home, warm water with a small amount of washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush will remove everyday grease and dirt from gold, platinum, diamonds and sapphires. Let them soak for 10 minutes before brushing them to soften any built up dirt. Rinse well and gently pat dry with a soft cloth.
Please don’t use this method on softer gemstones such as emeralds or opals, as they can be damaged by soap or soaking. If you’re ever unsure, I’m always happy to advise.
Even when jewellery is high quality, it’s best to remove it for heavy manual work, gym sessions, gardening, DIY or cleaning. This helps protect the metal and keeps stones secure over time.

Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring FAQ's
How Are Yellow Diamonds Graded?
Yellow diamonds are graded differently from white or colourless diamonds. Colourless diamonds are graded on the D–Z scale, where D is perfectly colourless and Z has a visible yellow tint. Fancy yellow diamonds are outside of this scale entirely and are graded on the GIA fancy colour scale, which runs from Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy Deep, and Fancy Vivid.
In general, the more saturated the colour, the rarer and more valuable the diamond, but there are also different tones that can affect the appearance of a yellow diamond, such as a brownish or greenish tone. I think it’s important to see what you like, not worry about the “best colour” as yellow diamonds have such unique personalities.
I'll always show you stones in person or on video so you can see the actual colour, not just the grade on paper.
Are Your Yellow Diamonds Natural, And How Are They Certified?
All diamonds used in engagement rings at Poppy Elder Fine Jewellery are natural diamonds, including the yellow diamonds. They are carefully sourced from a network of trusted suppliers who guarantee their diamonds are conflict free and all follow the Kimberley Process.
Any diamond over 0.25ct used in an engagement ring will come accompanied by a GIA certificate. This is an independently assessed certification, carried out under laboratory conditions, that verifies the colour, clarity and overall quality of your diamond. For a yellow diamond this is particularly valuable, as GIA is the laboratory whose fancy colour grading scale (Fancy Light through to Fancy Vivid) is the industry standard, so the certificate confirms exactly which colour grade you are paying for. You will also find most diamonds have the certificate number laser inscribed on the girdle, so you can be sure the certificate you have been provided with is definitely for your diamond.
Which Yellow Diamond Colour Grade Should I Choose?
It depends on how strong you want the colour and your budget. For most of my clients, Fancy is the sweet spot as a clearly obvious yellow at a sensible price. Fancy Light is a good option on a tighter budget, and we can make it appear more strongly yellow by setting the diamond in 18ct yellow gold to enhance its colour, even if the rest of the ring is platinum. Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid are excellent if you want a deeper, more intense yellow, though their rarity makes them more expensive. Because the setting metal genuinely changes how the colour reads, we work through this together so you're not paying for intensity the setting can give you anyway.
What Metal and Setting Suits a Yellow Diamond Best?
I'd always recommend setting the yellow diamond itself in 18ct yellow gold, as the rich colour of the metal enhances the diamond's colour.
The colour of the overall ring then comes down to the jewellery you or your partner usually wears. If you wear platinum, you can have the yellow diamond set in yellow gold while the rest of the ring is platinum. If you prefer gold-coloured jewellery, the whole ring can be yellow gold.
Where a design includes white diamonds, such as a white diamond halo around a yellow centre stone, or the outer stones of a yellow-and-white three-stone ring, those white diamonds are best set in platinum to keep them bright and add contrast against the yellow.
If your diamond has a warmer, brownish tint, rose gold can be a beautiful choice to bring out that warmth.
Because I specialise in bespoke coloured diamond engagement rings, we can work together to choose the metal and setting specifically to flatter the stone you fall for.
Are Yellow Diamonds More or Less Expensive Than White Diamonds?
It varies by grade. Natural yellow diamonds are more common than most other fancy colours, which keeps them relatively affordable while still being striking, and demand for them has risen steadily over recent decades. At the lower-to-mid intensity grades a yellow diamond can be comparable to or even better value than an equivalent colourless stone, particularly once you factor in that you don't need a top clarity grade. At the higher intensities, and Fancy Vivid especially, rarity pushes prices up significantly.
For clients looking for exceptional value, I also work with diamonds at the lower end of the standard colourless scale, in the U-V, W-X and Y-Z colour range. These stones carry a natural warm yellow tint and can look just as beautiful as a Fancy Light yellow, at a more affordable price. Set in 18ct yellow gold, the warmth of the metal brings out their colour beautifully.
I'll give you honest pricing across all the options so you can see exactly what your budget buys.
